‘Don’t Wait’ is the Advice from Mum of Two After Taking Part in Inklings
Being her second child, Laura felt confident when it came to raising her son Daniel.
However, once she noticed he was developing a little differently, she realised that more support might be needed for her twelve-month-old son.
“I waited a little longer than normal because Daniel was my second child, I thought maybe his brother was speaking for him, but it turns out he really did need the support.”
After noticing Daniel wasn’t quite meeting his communications milestones, Laura sought advice from a friend and Early Childhood Educator.
“At the time, it was difficult to know what he wanted, whether he was understanding what I was saying and if I was doing the best for him. It was difficult as a parent.”
“He (the Early Childhood Educator) recommended Inklings to us; it was the perfect program because the areas of skill that weren’t quite developing for Daniel was primarily communication.”
In April, Laura and Daniel began Inklings’ 10 session program, where she worked with an Inklings Practitioner to dive into the different ways Daniel was trying to communicate.
Laura found that once taking part in Inklings, the connection between herself, Daniel, and even her eldest son changed significantly.
“At first, I wasn’t sure if there was much more I could learn, I thought I was doing everything possible to help Daniel’s communication.”
“It was only when we really started doing the program where I could see, there were so many ways Daniel was communicating that I just didn’t realise.”
Laura’s advice to any parent or caregiver that notices a difference with their child’s communication skills would be not to wait.
“All children have their different strengths and challenges and what I find so amazing about Inklings is that it really breaks down your child’s journey and tailor makes the response to be beneficial to them.”
